The Luminous Mysteries
The Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary are a set of five Catholic prayers within the Rosary that are prayed while meditating on events from the public ministry of Jesus. They are traditionally prayed on Thursdays. The Luminous Mysteries are as follows:
- The Baptism of Jesus: This mystery reflects on the moment when Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan River.
- The Wedding at Cana: This mystery commemorates the moment when Jesus performed his first miracle, turning water into wine at a wedding in Cana.
- The Proclamation of the Kingdom: This mystery recalls the moment when Jesus began his public ministry, preaching about the kingdom of God and calling people to repent.
- The Transfiguration: This mystery celebrates the moment when Jesus was transfigured on a mountain and spoke with Moses and Elijah.
- The Institution of the Eucharist: This mystery reflects on the moment when Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with his disciples and instituted the Eucharist.
As Catholics pray the Luminous Mysteries, they are encouraged to meditate on the public ministry of Jesus and to reflect on the light and grace that he brought to the world.
