The Sorrowful Mysteries
The Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary are a set of five Catholic prayers within the Rosary that are prayed while meditating on events from the passion and death of Jesus. They are traditionally prayed on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The Sorrowful Mysteries are as follows:
- The Agony in the Garden: This mystery reflects on the moment when Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane and accepted his fate as the son of God.
- The Scourging at the Pillar: This mystery commemorates the moment when Jesus was whipped and beaten by Roman soldiers.
- The Crowning with Thorns: This mystery recalls the moment when Roman soldiers mocked Jesus by placing a crown of thorns on his head.
- The Carrying of the Cross: This mystery celebrates the moment when Jesus carried the cross on which he would be crucified.
- The Crucifixion: This mystery reflects on the moment when Jesus was crucified on the cross and died for the sins of humanity.
As Catholics pray the Sorrowful Mysteries, they are encouraged to meditate on the suffering and death of Jesus and to reflect on the sacrifice he made for the salvation of humanity.
